The teaser for Ascent is finally here! WhooHoo!

Glassing for bucksIt’s been a busy fall here at Twisted Stave. With most of September spent harassing elk with the stickbows, we didn’t really start getting ready for our mule deer hunt until mid October. And then, our November departure day was bearing down fast. It’s a good thing I’d been shooting almost daily all summer. If you’ve been following the facebook page, you’ll know we recently got back from a raft trip through the heart of the central Idaho wilderness, filming and chasing muley bucks along the way.

After a two day weather delay and more television than I thought I could stand, we finally got a break in the weather and the Cessna 206s were airborne. A half hour later and we were finally standing on the backcountry airstrip with miles of river, and the promise of rutting bucks, before us.

And so here I sit, having just completed the teaser to my next film, Ascent. The full film will debut at the 2016 Backcountry Hunters & Anglers Rendezvous in Missoula, MT this coming April. After that, it’ll go on tour and follow a timeline similar to Untamed before being released online in the summer/fall of 2017. If you get a chance to come to the BHA rendezvous, you won’t regret it. I’ve been to the last four and they’re one hell of a good time.

There were a lot of folks that really stepped up to help make this film a reality, companies and organizations that see the value in tradition and doing things the hard way. Vortex Optics, Seek Outside, Oregon Packworks, and First Lite all kicked in to help bring this film to you, free of charge. They’re also all run by down to earth, conservation minded folks that I’m happy to associate with. Can’t really say that for a lot of companies out there these days.

But the big thanks goes to the Professional Bowhunters Society. If you’re a bowhunter and not familiar with this group, you should be. These guys are some of the best know bowhunters in the world and they’re working hard to pass on those traditional skills that are so important to the future of hunting. Twisted Stave and PBS have very similar missions and I’m honored that this group of well-respected individuals thought I was good enough to represent them. They really stepped up to help cover the production costs of this project so check them out. They’ve also got tons of experience and advice for anyone looking to get into trad archery.

But I digress, I’ve got to get back to work. I’ve got about 10 hours of footage to boil down to less than 15 minutes. Ouch! I’ll be busy for the next few months me thinks… See you in Missoula!bow and arrows
